DESCRIPTIVE ESSAY: GENDER INEQUALITY IN PURCHASE THINGS


    Gender refers to the characteristics of women, men, that are socially constructed. As a social
construct, gender, varies from society and can change over time. Gender inequality is one sex or
gender routinely privileged or prioritized over another. Gender equality is a fundamental human
right and that right is violated by gender discrimination. Now we will discuss about how gender
inequality happens in purchase things.

    First and foremost, the colour of a product is the causes of happens gender inequality. This is
because, man always provides quality than fancy. So to attract women consumers, businessmen
using colours as a strategy. For example, a pink scooter may cost more than a red scooter because
it’s cost a lot of money to paint pink than red. The production of red scoter is higher than pink
scooter. However, there are no evidence presented, for that pink paint is more expensive than red
paint, thereby creating cost differentials in colour-coded items geared towards different genders.

    On top of that, the design of a product also created gender inequality. As you can see, men
always wear suits for every functions. There were no changes happens in their dress format but
women dresses are improved to suitable for modern society. Men did not have any improvements in
their dress but women have it. So it is causes the quantity of the dress that women buy is higher
than men dress. According to a Business of Fashion Survey (2022) women make up half of the
population, spend three times more on clothing than men, and at least in the women’s fashion
segment, account for virtually 100% of customers.

    Other than that, brands also play it’s role to affect gender equality. We can see that, men
are more loyal to brands than women. The price of same brands is different because of gender. A
study by the Eramus University showed that once men found a brand that worked for them, they
never change their thoughts. As an example, CLEAR is a shampoo product which known by global.
The price of Clear Men Cool Sport Menthol Shampoo 650ml is RM22.90 but the price of Clear
Women Ice Cool Menthol Shampoo 650ml is RM25.00. From this we get to known that eventhough
the weight and the usage of the product is similar but the gender plays it’s role to make differences
in prices. That’s why women provided good services than man.

    In conclusion, gender equality is most important in this society to ensure a happy life.
Respect to for human rights and respect for equality between women and men must be give
attention by every person in world. The harmonious for both gender must be equal for a peaceful
world
