GENDER INEQUALITY : EDUCATION

NARRATIVE ESSAY: GENDER INEQUALITY IN EDUCATION

In everyone’s life, there must be a journey as a rainbow after a rainy day. As the saying sounds, the story of a little girl named Queency was quite inspirational. She’s just an ordinary girl from a small village in India. Once she reached 16 years old, she requested her family to send her to school but her grandmother warned her and said: “you’re a girl and don’t have to go school instead do house chores and learned to organize a family”. After Queency went through arguing the toss finally her grandma agreed to send her to school. One week later, Queency started schooling at John Secondary School, located in a city near her village. Because she’s a village girl, the tutors at the school did not have much to look after her learning process. Moreover, they always refused to help in clearing her doubts about her studies and also blow their top when she does not perform well in her exams.

Although Queency went through a lot of struggles in her studies she never thought to give up on her studies. After some months, Queency’s 17th candle-blowing day arrived. Unfortunately, she was treated worse on her day because one of her teachers punished Queency for not buying any activity books that may help her improve her grades on exams. Even though Queency explained her family’s financial problems she was humiliated in front of other students by saying “get lost poor girl” and asked to kneel outside of the classroom until the school finished. That day made Queency depressed until she forgets that day was her birthday.

A string of bad luck continued on the next day as Queency injured her legs in an accident on the road at the time she goes to school. From that day, her legs became disabled but not her spirit towards her studies. Therefore, Queency became more dedicated to her studies and performed well on her exams. Moreover, she also sold some handicrafts by moving around the market by using her wheelchair lonely as a woman. She did this part-time job to manage her educational expenses without expecting anyone.

Finally, Queency became a queen of education life. She successfully graduated and continue her studies until known as India’s Head Ministry of Education. Besides that, Queency also established many kinds of associations to defend women’s rights in education, which successfully provided education for every woman in the village or city. Like the saying ‘if you educate a woman, you educate a nation’ Queency abolished the inequality against women in education.
