GENDER INEQUALITY : EDUCATION
Throughout, the 20th century, our view of life on gender equality has drastically
changed.Yes,even though the world towards technologically modernization, there are
still presence gender inequality in our society. According to Dr. Radhika Kapur (2019),
gender inequality refers to unequal treatment or perceptions of individuals based on
their gender. It arises from differences in socially constructed gender roles. In my
point of view, there are a lot of gender inequality in many aspects as en example in
education. Gender inequality in education causing by some factors such as
management of households, restriction of parents and lack of confidence.
Past few decades, girls are mostly meant to play traditional roles such as manage
households and given responsibility to taking care of their siblings even though they
are still young to do stuff like this. They are also ordered to take care of their sibling
after their parents go to work while do all the house chores lonely without getting
helped by boys in the house. For instance they need to house chores such as
cleaning, cooking, washing clothes and many more. This type scenario is mostly
happened in some country like India. As a negative impact, the girls not have time to
study and also cant focus on studies.
Furthermore, restriction of parents is one of the example how gender inequality
happened in education. Most of the parents restrict their daughter go to school but
allowed their son to go wherever they want in old days. Even when the world
significantly changed on culture still some parents not allowed their daughter to
continue their higher studies for the reason that she is a girl and need to marriage
earlier. As well as they instructed to obey their parents words and can’t do anything
independently in old days. This is because their parents low education and
influenced by community view point.
In addition, one of the factor caused gender inequality on girls is lack of confidence
to go to school. This is because lack of encouragement by their parents and also
community. As we all know that in India there are lots of discrimination on girls
education. A girl is also discriminated by society even though she break all the
obstacles to continue her studies because of she is a girl. Consequently, the girl lost
her interest in studies. As a result of not study well they also being bullied by other
students in the class. They are also continuously criticized by community.
In conclusion, gender inequality is not only existence in education, but also in other
aspects like sports. The factors that stated above can be negative impact to women
to achieve more in their life. Last but not least responsible parties should play role to
prevent raising of gender inequality in education on upcoming generation.
