GENDER INEQUALITY : EDUCATION
In today’s 21st century, there are many different opinions about gender inequality in
education, especially for girls. In old days education was restricted for girls and even
nowadays girls are still restricted to continue their higher education. Malala Yousafzai
became an international symbol of the fight for girls’ education after she was shot in
2012. Is higher education really important for girls?
First and foremost, the benefit of girls' higher education is the existing leadership
among women. Many women are innately driven to bring people together to achieve
something bigger than themselves. They often motivate and inspire others to think in
new ways and overcome obstacles. An example is Kamala Harris who is well-known
as Vice President of the United States. This example proves that women can play
roles as leaders in political aspects also and create world-level leaders.
Moreover, we can reduce poverty worldwide when a women go to work after she
finishes her higher education. This is because when everyone goes to work whether
doesn’t matter men or women, the government can decrease unemployment in the
community and also can achieve full employment consequently its leads to
economical growth. Lastly, as a positive impact, it can create economical balance
and automatically decrease poverty in many countries. According to International
Monetary Fund (2018), women’s economic empowerment magnifies productivity and
arises economic diversification and income equality in addition to other positive
development outcomes.
In addition, those who disagree with these ideas may say that women cannot play
traditional roles especially mentioned that do house chores and take care of their
families. Mostly in India girls are meant to play traditional roles and be given the
responsibility for taking care of their families and some of the girls discontinued their
higher education to do stuff like this. Points out they also discriminated to continue
their higher education because she is a girl. Society’s negative thoughts claim that if
women are educated more than men, they will be arrogant and lose track of taking
care of the family.
Last but not least a quotation sounds like “She’d become a governess. It was one of
the few jobs a known lady could do. “ I strictly debate that house courses are not only
women work and moreover women can do their work perfectly even it is a leadership
or households. In my perspective, women also need to continue their higher study to
achieve more in their life and become successful as men. As a girl, we also need to
voice out against women's discrimination to pursue higher education. When do you
all voice out this criticism of women?
