GENDER INEQUALITY : FILM INDUSRY

Gender inequality is the social phenomenon in which men and women are not treated equally. Gender diversity in the film industry has been a long standing problem until now. It is common knowledge that in the movie industry, the male reigns supreme, whether it could be leading character roles or the director. The film industry might say that a director job is only for males because a female may not be able to handle the studio pressure.

 There should be more females being place in that job as a film director because females have the same potentially as males do, but the film industry does not consider this situation that way, which gender inequality should stop because it makes women feel dehumanized, affects them psychologically, and makes them feel inferior.The industry sees that women are not competent enough for film making environment. The film industry should not dehumanized females because the employers feel that females are “too emotional.” Females are just as hardworking not just only males and should actually give females a chance to direct, and not assume ideologies about them because it will make females feel that they are not good enough in the film industry. If people in the industry changed their attitudes about women directing movie there would have been more women directing movies.

 The film industry is a big business full of big financial risks that the industry is not willing to place women in charge of their investments. The film industry is all about making a great amount of money and demonstrates great success. And the industry thinks putting a woman in charge is a risk to them, making them feel that if they make a female direct a movie it might not do well in the box office and the studio will end up losing money plus maybe people would not even bother watching the movie, making it a big waste of time filming that certain movie.

Women should get hired in directing movies more because there are a very large numbers of women who are interested in directing or writing films, but they are not given the opportunity to do so. This is where gender inequality takes place, and it should stop. Without these beliefs about women and gender inequality there would be more women directors winning Oscars. Females have the same potential as men, and the film industry should give an opportunity for females to direct more blockbuster movies.
