GENDER INEQUALITY : IN HOME

Gender inequality is the biased treatment and and perceptions of individuals on their gender. Bohren, Imas and Rosenberg (2017) document discrimination against women on an online math platform and show that it is most consistent with discrimination based upon biased beliefs. Sexism is a social disease, women are downtrodden by so many, and ridiculed for choices that they make. This issue also happened at home. Therefore, there are some methods to minimize the gender inequality issues.

To combat this social disease, parents play the important role at home. Parents should be a good role models for their children by treat them fairly regardless of gender, that is not favoring one side over another. For examples, parents should delegate the housework and care giving role to boys from a very early age, along with girls. Parents need to give them a patient hearing, and perhaps learn from them.

Apart from that, governments supposed to implement an awareness campaign to raise the awareness of the public. The campaign must be carrying out in every corner of the world whether in cities or villages to cure this issue. The campaign named #Lifeinleggings was founded in 2016, speaking to gender-based issues and discrimination faced by women and changing the mindset of women. This campaign started with the hashtag #Lifeinleggings in virtual spaces as a safe space for women who experienced sexual harassment and sexual assault.

In this modern society, the influence of the media is stunning. Nepal’s Sajha Sawal debate show is a good example. The program was usually based on current affairs, and it is an opportunity for people to raise questions, then they will discuss and find a solution to the issue. They take politicians out to communities to visit communal taps, tea shops and fields that is the places where women feel much more confident to ask questions. Sajha Sawal was an immensely popular show among the Nepali community, reaching out to 6.6 million viewers, according to a research conducted by BBC Media Action.

In a nutshell, as we consider how best to reduce sexism, the impact of the contemporary women’s movement must be neither forgotten nor underestimated. Furthermore, it is public obligation to pay more attention to the works of women to encourage them to do what they want to do and giving women the chance to strive for a better life. Let’s fight this social disease together to minimize this gender inequality.
