GENDER INEQUALITY : MEN MAKE BETTER EDUCATORS
Men make better educators
Women held about 76% of all teaching positions in public schools in 2017-2018, according to the National Centre for Education Statistics (NCES), 2021. Gender which makes better educators is always the talk of the town. From my point of view, men’s teaching methods and calm emotions are the main reasons why men are better educators than women.
First and foremost, people would think that women made better educators but based on their differences in teaching methods, I think men do. Fathers provide options and the effects for children to pick their own choice and leave a deep impression in their minds. On the contrary, women educators focus on developing the right things and attitudes in children and always protect their kids from injury in any situation. Children are hard to be independent after leaving their parents. According to Mirjana Markovic (2012), a good education system gives students the freedom to recognize their capabilities and individual potential. Obviously, men can teach effectively than women.
Furthermore, men are considered good possible role models for students as they show knowledge physically while women educators use words and images to give information. Men educators lead students to apply pieces of knowledge that have been taught. Students can understand more about the topic by gaining experience. There was a news from TIMESOFINDIA.COM (2020), shows that Kobe Bryant as a father coached his daughter to play basketball by spending some time on the court along with his daughter. Kobe Bryant taught his daughter professional techniques and give her chances to apply the knowledge that most of the men educators do.
However, women are still more likely to be accepted as educators as they are born with high emotional quotient and empathy. In my opinion, these characteristics bring pros and cons for a woman as an educator. According to David P Schmitt Ph.D. (2015), women are more likely than men to use negative emotion-related coping strategies such as cognitive rumination. It is detrimental to students who have been exposed to negative emotions. Despite that, men can control their emotions more effectively and thus can educate students without expressing negative emotions.
In the nutshell, from my point of view, men can make better educators than women. Men’s teaching method is more effective to educate the new generation. Although every career is said to be uni-gender. I think that the education field can reach new heights if men educators are more than women educators.
