GENDER INEQUALITY : MEN'S AND WOMEN'S JOBS

 “MEN’S JOBS” AND “WOMEN’S JOBS”

In your subconscious, housework should be done by who? As a woman, what is our responsibility after marriage? I am sure that everyone has the stereotype that housework is the women’s jobs. Nowadays, women have the opportunity to work outside. However, women’s main jobs are still doing housework and raising children. People still have the mindset that men should work outside and women should take care of the family. Is it fair to women? In my perspective, the division between “men’s jobs” and “women’s jobs” should no longer be present.

Firstly, the division between “men’s jobs” and “women’s jobs” should be stopped as it will bury the talents of women. Some of the women are able to work outside, but the majority of them are not allowed. This might cause women do not have the chance to show their talent. I’m sure that if women have the same chances, women don’t necessarily lose to men. A very good example is the Queen of England. She has reigned for 70 years and has led the country well. It goes to show that women are capable of doing anything if given the chance. Therefore, I strongly agree that the division between “men’s jobs” and “women’s jobs” should be stopped.

Besides, this unfair division should be stopped as it violates people's right to liberty. According to Des Gasper and Irene van Staveren (2003), he emphasised that freedom is the dominant value in judging individual well-being and societal development. Everyone has the freedom to decide what they want to do and no one can limit them. Nor is there any law that stipulates that women can only do housework and raise children at home. Therefore, people should not limit their freedom by saying it is women’s job.

Lastly, if the division between “men’s jobs” and “women’s jobs” still exists after a few years, it might cause the women to become self-abasement and might affect their mental health. Women who are not financially independent will always need to rely on others. In addition, lack of exposure to the outside world leads to social disconnection. As we said the frog in the well knows nothing of the sea. These totally will cause women to be humble, which will lead to psychological problems. In short, women should have the opportunity to work outside so that they will not be disconnected with society and it can also give women more confidence.

In conclusion, I believed the division between “men’s jobs” and “women’s jobs” should be stopped as women can also do the men’s work. Women, who are the vulnerable groups in society, should be treated fairly and no one can ignore their worth.
