GENDER INEQUALITY : MUSIC INDUSTRY

Gender inequality in the music industry, as the name suggests, is the unequal and
biased treatment between the two sexes in the music industry. It is most commonly
experienced by women from all over the world. Every music-experienced and talented individual deserves a chance at their dream job as a music artist, no matter how they look or what they believe in. However, the music industry is still overwhelmingly male-dominated in every possible way, whether we are talking about singers, bands, classical musicians, producers, record owners, or simply journalists or music industry workers. There are numerous factors that contribute to females' less oppurtunities in the music industry.

First and foremost, the ideology says that males have the ability to make clearer
decisions than females. Normally, in the music industry, males will have a clearer mind to make decisions about which music albums need to be published all over the world than females. Males will think widely, and they will also think of the profit they will get when they publish the album, compared to females, who take decisions emotionally without thinking about the profit or the fame they will get if they publish it.

Furthermore, females were unable to handle studio pressure as well as men.According to a recent study by the Music Industry Research Association (2018), musicians working in the music industry experience higher rates of depression, suicidal thoughts, and substance use than the average American. Not only that, a new study conducted by Pirate Studios in 2021 has found that 98% of female artists suffer from performance anxiety. Normally, females have less guts to perform in front of many pupils compared to males, who have the guts to perform in front of many pupils.

Moreover, the number of sexual harassment issues involving women in all aspects is increasing day by day. Not excluded, the popular music industry also has this problem, which is that men are sexually assaulting women. Male producers, record company executives, and musicians are exploiting and abusing women musicians, women working in the industry, and female fans. Male fans are doing it too. It's not new. According to findings from an independent review examining the prevalence of sexual harm in the music industry, 72% of women have reported experiencing some sort of workplace sexual harassment or harm. Because of this sexual harassment, females are afraid to enter the music industry, thereby missing out on opportunities.

In conclusion, humanity requires both men and women, and we are equally important
and need one another. So why are women viewed as less than equal? These old attitudes are drilled into us from the beginning. We have to teach our boys the rules of equality and respect so that, as they grow up, gender equality becomes a natural way of life. Meanwhile, we have to teach our girls that they can reach as high as humanly possible.
