GENDER INEQUALITY : PURCHASING THINGS
One fine day, Alice and I stepped into a shopping mall named Modern Mall. We were amazed with the structure of the mall and felt comfortable with surrounding at there. The mall was very large and there are various types things sold at there such as clothes, cosmetic products, accessories, and so on. Then, we decided to do shopping at there.
Suddenly, Alice noticed some cosmetics products were on discount. She got nearer to it and took a look of it. Alice went to women’s sections while I went to men’s sections to buy some stuffs for each other. At that time, she realised that there were have some differences in prices when compared to women and men in personal care products. She found out that women’s personal care products were a bit pricey compared to men’s although the products were approximately the same. We were shocked and decided to ask for an explanation from a staff at there. After had a conversation with the staff, he told us that it is the fixed prices for those products and he didn’t want to answer our question.
After that, Alice and I moved to second floor of the mall. She wanted buy some deodorant and facial moisturiser products for her personal purposes. We started to buy some of the products together but after purchased the items, I noticed that I had bought many products compared to Alice. Unfortunately, Alice doesn’t expect that women’s deodorant was more expensive than men’s. As the same goes to facial moisturiser. She was really downhearted when bought the products because the price showed inequality between women and men in personal care products.
While having window shopping in the mall, we looked a clothing boutique at third floor and entered the boutique to buy some clothes. She excited to buy those clothes because the clothes were enchanting, unique in design and latest fashioned. The clothes were as soft as silk when I hold it. By the way, Alice found out that the clothes costs were reasonable but it is expensive compared to men’s clothes. Hence, I had bought more trendy clothes that I liked compared to Alice.
As it happens, Alice dissatisfied with the prices of the products and clothes and so on. She ended up buying more items at the mall because she felt that she was paying through the nose. She learned that gender inequality in accessories become exist day-to-day and she as a woman felt not fair with this matter. In order to put a full stop to this gender inequality matter, Alice make up her mind to make awareness to the public out there through social medias. As a first step, we started to create a blog about the gender inequality in purchase things to educate people out there. Hope this effort would change the faith of the gender inequality in purchase things as soon as possible. We wait patiently for the positive results in the future.
