GENDER INEQUALITY : WOMEN
ARGUMENTATIVE ESSAY: GENDER INEQUALITY AMONG WOMEN
Gender inequality is the state in which people have equal access to opportunities and resources
regardless of their gender. It refers to the equal responsibilities and rights of both men and
women. However, now gender equality is being downplayed in our society. They are not given
respect by this society nowadays. According to the Malaysian survey, there are women and girls
who are discriminated against in the labour market, education, sports, etc. I agree with the
statement that gender inequality against women is growing in this society. Therefore, the
government must take a look at this issue. Ways to practise gender inequality in our communities
are through the introduction of gender empowerment programs, the implementation of gender
equality, and the creation of gender awareness campaigns.
Firstly, the introduction of gender empowerment programmes will ensure that both men and
women understand gender equality, as stated by Emily W. Kane (2014). This is because it will
provide effective solutions for mitigating male dominance in our society. For instance, it will teach
men how to use their qualities for good. They will use their strength to preserve and protect the
feminine character. Thus, women should be given equal opportunities and resources to establish
themselves in society, depending on their determination.
Kyle Beardsley, b. 1979, PhD in Political Science (University of California, San Diego, 2006),
stated that the implementation of gender equality policies will ensure that gender equality is
maintained in our society. Thus, gender inequality among women in the workplace is still a hot
topic in our society. Women work two-thirds of the world's working hours but earn only 10% of the
total income. For example, the prime minister can pass legislation requiring equal pay into law.
Thus, this will ensure that women are given the same opportunities as their male counterparts.
Thirdly, the Ministry of Women, Family, and Community Development (2011) also stated that the
creation of gender awareness campaigns will give both men and women a collective voice. This
is because women have long been considered second-class citizens, with unequal employment
opportunities as men. Most notably, the female gender is often propagated negatively by the
media, including movies and music videos. For instance, Saudi Arabia is one of the countries that
doesn't allow women to drive. This means that still, in that country, people do not understand what
women are capable of. Hence, the gender awareness campaign should be expanded to ensure
that both men and women are aware of their respective abilities.
As a conclusion, I agree that gender inequality exists in women's society. Therefore, gender
equality has to be restored for our communities to keep progressing. Gender inequality breeds
poverty because it denies one party a lot of opportunities and creates a lack of productive
opportunities in society. Therefore, gender inequality has a lot of negative impacts on our
societies, and we should implement the measures that help us restore gender equality in our
societies.
